No, it’s perfectly possible to take out a mortgage directly with a lender without advice. This is known as an ‘execution-only’ mortgage. As well as potentially missing out on certain deals and having a bit more work to do yourself, you have slightly less FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) protection with this type of mortgage application.

The obvious answer is to google online mortgage broker - however, be sure to do your research. Not all brokers are created equal, so ensure they are offering the services you need and have good feedback.
You don’t ‘need’ mortgage advice, but it can be very beneficial, especially the first time. Mortgages can be complex and there are a fair number of factors to consider, so it’s nice to have someone to bounce any questions you may have off of.
